Fluoropolymers are used in almost every aspect of the chemical industry and manufacturing where corrosive chemicals, solvents, high temperatures, and pressures are used in combination to produce desired products. PTFE (Teflon) is most common with applications ranging from reactor vessels and storage tanks, to valves, pump fittings and seals, tubing, coatings, and other components where outstanding chemical resistance, low permeability to liquid and gases, and excellent strength and toughness at elevated temperatures make them superior to stainless steel, glass, ceramics, and other polymer plastics.
